When an animal passes away from life, there is a feeling of emptiness and loss. I find it very special to be able to offer comfort and evoke something of a sense of presence with a well-struck painting. It will not return a loved one, but the feeling of that dear friendship or love will remain somewhat preserved and accessible from time to time.

The bond between humans and animals is often very rich and intense. During introductions, I therefore always ask in detail about their experiences. That way, in addition to the outward appearances, I discover what kind of character lies behind them. A real encounter is therefore an indispensable facet for painting a true portrait. ​
