For a 'ready to hang portrait at your doorstep', we go through the following phases:

Getting acquainted,

It all starts with getting acquainted. I usually spend around half a day with the person or animal to get to know each other. I want to figure out how it feels, being together.

Reference photo

After making around hundreds of foto's, together we later choose the best ones and I work out one refined picture that will be used as a reference for the portrait.

Then the portrait painting can begin, during which I take pictures that can be looked at later. Good chance I make a story of it, 'the making of ...'.

All the photographs I take during the whole process are for the client and are included in the price. They can be used freely for any purpose.

When the portrait is ready and dry, it can go to the framer. If necessary, we can discuss together which frame would be most suitable, possibly including the colours of an interior.

Within acceptable geographic range, I will personally deliver the painting to your house, ready to hang. But it can also be picked up at my atelier. If both is not an option, I will carefully pack and ship it to your address, once balance is due in full.

Ready to hang means 'all inclusive'!

Which is:

- all communication

- a personal meeting and photo shoot

- optimisation of the chosen photo (lighting, composition)

- the canvas and other painting supplies (I only use high quality and durable materials)

- the making of the portrait

- the frame and directing the framer (if the preference is for a very exclusive frame, extra costs will be charged)

- transport / delivery (only NL)

And last but not least, you get all the photo's of the photoshoot, free to use the way you like.

All in pricing

I like to agree on a fixed 'all in' price in advance so that there is no pressure on quality and my creative flow during the creative process.

20 x 30 cm | 7,9 x 11,8 inch EUR 2475

50 x 70 cm | 19,7 x 27,6 inch EUR 4850

80 x 100 cm | 31,5 x 39,4 inch EUR 6800

Excluding 9% VAT (NL) |

Update July 2022: USD prices are almost similar

According to your wishes or what a portret requires, sizes can be adjusted.

Lead time, not painting time : )

After the shoot, the photo selection and optimisation, for a small work I spend around two to three days just painting. That is, if I were working full time with a brush in my hand... But since I need time to look a lot, walk past the portrait often enough and give the eye a break from time to time, this is spread over one or two weeks.

For a medium-sized work, it is about 1.5 to 2 full painting weeks spread over a month. For a large painting of about 1 metre by 140 cm, the lead time is 2 to 3 months.
